The Category 6a cable, sometimes known as Cat6A cables, is the most recent version of Gigabit Ethernet wiring. The 'a' in Cat6a stands for "augmented," and it refers to the cable's improved specs over its predecessor, the Category 6, or Cat6 cable.

The Cat6a doubles data transmission capacity from 250 to 500 MHz, reduces crosstalk interference, and improves dependability and transmission speeds over longer distances of cable. Cat6a cables, unlike other Cat6 cables, are frequently insulated, making them suited for industrial applications where additional interference is a concern.
