Eligible students (those who have appeared for the PEC exam) go for the three-year Junior Intermediate Education, i.e. Junior School Certificate (JSC) examination. Eligibility to allow students to then take the SSC exam and appear for the High School Certificate (HSC) exam.

These medical colleges are under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and are affiliated with a university in the respective region. These medical colleges have yet to meet the criteria set by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC). At present, there are 112 accredited medical colleges in Bangladesh, of which 37 are public or government owned and subsidized and 70 are private.

Bangladesh is run by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and is funded by six medical colleges under the Ministry of Defense. At present, the number of MBBS admissions in public colleges in Bangladesh is around 4350, while private colleges have about 6040 students and 375 seats in military controlled medical colleges every year, although the number of seats available is changing.
