LncRNAs tether epigenetic complexes that are capable of methylating DNA and modifying histones to the chromatin, thereby enabling allele and locus-specific regulation. Moreover, lncRNAs, because of their length, are suited for orchestrating specific regulatory events particular to a target locus. In addition, miRNA has shown to be linked with cancer and can act as oncogenes or tumor-suppressor genes. They can be involved in establishing DNA methylation and regulating histone modification through interacting with their target mRNA to alter chromatin of the corresponding DNA template.
