Have you seen amazing videos and shares  of Dads, moms playing with thier children, people walking in total abandon on the streets, more downloads of new food recipes, new songs, family movies, face to face chats and endless conversations!! oh I have.

I don’t remember a time in my life when the entire world was at stand still as it is now. The rich and poor, urban, rural almost everybody locked down mandatorily in their hood. This is a new sight, new experience !

Part of a routine I keep during my regular week is a walk in my neighbourhood. For Most times, I take it with my four year old during which, we stop to pick up stones, observe different flowers, creatures, children playing by a stream, and such discoveries. The roads are never filled with people jogging or taking slow walks as I have seen during this lockdown.

The sights, sounds, movements, ouchs, excitement of all this happening now are enviable- Oh how we need this!  Forget the ones telling us to learn a new skill take a new course or keep on the race! Oh maybe we should!! Whatever you choose, sooner than we know we will be back to the race.

I thought about my brother who spends all his days under the scorching sun having to repair motorbikes, or, the mother who never sees their children awake because of work timelines, or that person for whom leave from work is equal to loss of a job, that child who spends most of their day time with an abusive caretaker because parents need to make ends meet. Well, Now they get to rest, and spend some time with loved ones.

While we may have to keep on the whim of the race, Re-inventing how best to deliver on our work objectives and rethink how to thrive after the effect of this quarantine, there is much to be thankful for.

THERE IS A SILVER LINING IN THIS CLOUD.

For children who are playing and spending time with their fathers, for young children taking a break from early morning routines to catch school buses that pick them up as early as 5:00am. Mothers who are staying home to nurse their babies- on and on I can go. This season has taught us that love, care, patience, warmth, grace, empathy, UBUNTU are matchless.

What are you thankful for this season? I hope you will slow down on you and let live. We are alone together.
