Lead-acid batteries are used in cars and ships all over the world. The lead-acid battery structure now includes gel and AGM (absorbent glass mat) technology and liquid lead-acid.

It is important to understand which type you are using. Each battery type requires different processing procedures. Errors can shorten battery life or damage the battery or the user. Choose any one or more steps to determine your battery type and care instructions.

Liquid lead-acid batteries or wet batteries are the most common type of lead-acid batteries. Sealed AGM Battery or dry battery is the latest type of battery and can replace a wet battery. Sealed AGM Battery is safer and more durable when moved from one place to another, but it is easily destroyed during charging

Look at the top of the battery. Liquid lead-acid batteries have lids or removable tops unless the label says "sealed." Gel-filled and Sealed Agm Battery have flat tops except for the positive and negative terminals.

Shake the battery. Liquid lead-acid batteries will oscillate when held still after being shaken violently. Even if the battery is sealed, the liquid center will continue to move for a while. Gel-filled and Sealed AGM Battery will not oscillate when remaining still after violent shaking.
