A home remodel is a costly and time-consuming affair. But it need not be. The best refurnishing projects focus on the details rather than on broad strokes. If you are looking to remodel your home simply and without spending too much time and money, this article is for you.

These are our top 4 refurnishing hacks for 2021:

#1 Cosy up your bed – you’re going to spend a lot more time on it.

Though the country is slowly reverting back to the WFO (Work From Office) mode, there are many other firms that have realised the several benefits of employees continuing to work from home. Remote working is more cost-effective for companies, especially when employee presence on site is not crucial to daily operations. If your office has an extended WFH (Work From Home) policy, chances are that you will spend a lot of time working on your laptop sitting on the bed. It naturally follows that your bed must be inviting and pretty, so getting new bed linen like cotton bed sheets, matching pillow cases and duvet covers from a premium bed linen brand are most important. Even if you choose to work from a desk, the thought of a well made bed with crisp cotton bedsheets and pillow cases with a cosy duvet cover should inspire you to finish your tasks ahead of schedule and take a nap!

#2 Liven up your floors, walls and ceiling.

We often focus on furniture, lighting fixtures and appliances when we renovate our homes. But what about the largest areas of the house that occupy the most square footage? We’re talking about the floor, ceiling and walls. If you are renovating your home this season, we suggest that you start by adorning the floors. Wall-to-wall carpet may not be necessary (or even practical) but you can certainly invest in stunning floor rugs and runners. Next, decorate the walls with wall art or framed photographs, or get a large painting for the living room. Next, turn your attention to the ceiling. Install gorgeous new light fixtures, or have a new false ceiling put in for the living room (the false ceiling hides AC vents and other wiring, too).

#3 Add more storage in every room, but conceal it cleverly.

Every household grapples with too much stuff per family member. Over the years, we tend to accumulate a lot of belongings without enough storage for them. This creates clutter and a visually disturbing home environment. The trick is to minimise clutter by donating or discarding what you no longer need, and by creating adequate storage for the remaining items. This applies to every room – create more storage in the form of cabinets or drawer systems, and try and conceal it wherever possible. You can also opt for open storage in the form of wall hooks, shelves, or pull out shelving under the bed, among other ideas.

#4 Remake the kitchen space.

Kitchens in most houses are decorated as an afterthought. If you kitchen is dingy, lacks adequate storage and is an uninspiring space to be in, you need to correct these flaws at once. Aim for an open kitchen layout that lets in plenty of natural light, and have both overhead and under-counter storage to store away everything from cutlery to large pans. Organise your drawers with compartments so you can find what you need quickly. Have light coloured walls so the space looks larger, and install a small dining table in the corner if you have dead space. Add a row of herb and spice pots on the window sill for more charm.
